When we started our band, a big part of it was to encourage more female participation in the punk scene. Selfishly, we wanted more women and girls to play music with when we went on tour. We wanted more women and girls to talk to about the experience of being in a band because we were constantly encountering sexism and having no one but each other to talk to about it.

I’m sorry that I’m getting chubby
And I cannot always be happy for you
And I am not some lame sorority queen
Taking you home to meet my Daddy

I found this artistic rendition of Kathleen Hanna.  I think it’s fucking awesome.  I wish I knew who the artist was.

Quote
"If you like Nirvana, you should know about her. If you’re interested in the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, you should know about her. If you want to know about female singers generally, she’s the secret ingredient. If you go back and listen to any of her music, like her bands Bikini Kill or Le Tigre, this is a woman who’s smart and political but also funny and clever. She’s the Tina Fey of punk rock."
